How to Memorialize Memorial Day (weekend)

First off, a big thank you to all those who have sacrificed their lives while serving the greatest country on earth, The United States of America. You’ve secured our freedom, protected our citizens, and promoted our democratic ideals… and then on top of that you went and gave us a 4 day weekend. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

So put on your red white & blue’s best and head out to enjoy this great Memorial Day weekend. Here are some suggestions we have on things to do:

The Greek Festival
Aww just like Athens!
Reason #1: This festival allows you to Greek-out to the fullest with cathedral tours, Hellenic dancers, live Greek music, Greek grub, a Mount Olympus climbing wall and an Athenian Playground.

Reason #2: You can #YOLO with those who created the #YO-YO

Reason # 3: If you own a bed. If there is a thin cotton lining that separates you from said bed while you’re laying on it. AKA you are officially the owner of a toga and are unofficially 1/18th Greek.

Reason # 3.5: Free enterance on Sunday for everyone wearing said bed sheet. 1st & 2nd place prizes awarded to the most creative bed sheet wearer.

Reason # 4: Even if you only have one sheet to your name when you wake up, you’ll likely be three sheets to the wind by the time you go to sleep.
Oh Johnny boy... you must have had so many sheets...

Reason # 5: Did we mention there will be Baklava? The most incredible present the Greeks gave to this earth. Well, unless of course you believe in that thing they thought up called “democracy”.
Location: Taking place on the shores of Bayou St. John and Holy Trinity Cathedral (The first Greek Orthodox church in America): 1200 Robert E. Lee Boulevard.

Hours/ Price: Friday 5pm – 11pm, Saturday 11am – 11pm, Sunday 11am to 9 pm. Admission is $5/day.

Now that looks like an experience
Reason#1: Winemakers and chefs have arrived from across the country and beyond to put on seminars and wine and food tastings. If you’re an undoubted, self-proclaimed “foodie” or “wino”, you should undoubtedly self-purchase a ticket.

Reason #2: A Sunday Champagne Brunch at one of New Orleans’ best restaurants. Because obviously you can't have a complete wine-centric experience without champagne.

Reason # 3: It may be costly but the opportunity cost is well worth it.
-          (I.e: in Spain you can experience a liter box of Don Simon for exactly 1 Euro. While at home you can experience a 3 liter box of Franzia for exactly $10. It’s pretty ridiculous to choose either of these options unless you’re already in Spain or you’re special enough to actually be locked inside of your house.)

Reason #4: You are already an expert on how to drink a ton and then eat a ton but you would like to learn how to consume an appropriate amount of both at the same time.

Wait. That looks like wine mixed with food.
Now we're confused again.
Locations: There’s a whole lotta lotta going on for this event so we’re going to let you peruse all the deets as you please here: to the official Wine and Food Experience website. FYI: tickets to the events must be bought in advance.

Reason #1: What better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than to explore the World War II Museum and honor our country’s fallen soldiers. This place is seriously impressive.

Reasons #2-5: We think you just might like:

This guy: Herschel Abbott
-          Chairman of the Board of the WWII Museum
-          King of Rex 2011
-          Receiver of the Times-Picayune Loving Cup
-          Seriously, don’t you just want to squeeze him?

This Girl: Courtney Boe
-          Victory Belle at the WWII Museum
-          Prettiest person we’ve ever seen in real life

This Happy Hour: American Sector
-          $2.75 craft beers
-          $.75 sliders
-          Free parking in the CBD

And this iconic American institution: Soda Shop
-          Sorry, we’re too hungry to explain

Location: 945 Magazine Street, corner of Andrew Higgins.
Hours: The museum is open seven days a week from October through June from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

So there ya go friends. Get out there and make the most of this weekend by attending some of these events... and if all else fails: find a swimsuit, a pack of American Budweiser's and a body of water.

Whatever you do, just be sure to make it a weekend that our soldiers can be proud of that they fought for to give you to. (Not to put any pressure on you or anything...)
