A Checklist for Jayhawks, Wildcats, Cardinals, and Buckeyes alike


Your New Orleans Checklist
This is a quick list of things to do while in Nola. You won’t get to all of them so we recommend picking and choosing activities based on your preferences. Luckily, we live here so we get to prefer them all.

-         Places to Visit:
o   French Quarter
§  Jackson Square
·         St. Louis Cathedral
o   Best photo opp of you and the cathedral is standing on the side of the square closest to Decatur Street in front of the statue of Andrew Jackson.
o   Is open to the public for mass Sunday mornings 9am & 11am.
·         Café Du Monde
o   At least 1 order for every 1-2 people.
o   Café au laites frozen or hot, whichever you prefer.
o   Be prepared to wait up to an hour for a table during busy weekend hours.
o   Friday – Sunday 8am-2pm
o   Still partially fun to wait in line and be smack in the middle of all of the bustling tourists.
·         Street Art
o   Impressive pieces hanging on the fence of the square
·         River Walk
·         Carriage Tours
o   Expensive but worth it to learn all the quirky history behind the city. Makes the city come alive.
§  Royal Street
·         Art Galleries
·         Street Performers
o   Plop down on the sidewalk and enjoy these awesome performers. We’ve spent hours doing this and it never gets old.
§  Bourbon Street
·         Fritzel’s (Live Jazz Bar)
·         Pat O’s (Courtyard/Piano Bar)
·         Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop (Oldest Bar in America)
o   Voodoo/Purple drink
o   Cherries
·         Marie Laveau’s Voodoo Shop (Famous Voodoo Queen)
·         Cat’s Meow (Karaoke)
·         Goldmine (late night dance bar)
·         Drink in the street & people watch
·         Don’t touch the strippers
§  Frenchmen Street
·         All the bars have great live music
·         Mosey past each one to get a feel on which one is most up your alley, as there will likely be a cover charge.

o   Tip: Every praline Shoppe you pass will claim to be home of the city’s/world’s/universes best praline. Believe them if you will, but we have all seen movie Elf and his excitement over the World’s Best Cup of Coffee. However it is unlikely that you will be let down as a crappy praline will undoubtedly always taste better than a crappy cup of coffee.
